Sleighs and Cars Park Free in Downtown South Orange

One cost you can scratch from your holiday expense list is the price of parking in South Orange Village.  From Friday, Dec. 2 through Monday, Dec. 26, the will provide free two-hour parking on most meters.

SOPA’s holiday meter bagging is a courtesy provided in conjunction with and the South Orange Chamber of Commerce.

Free parking hours will be Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Look for meters with bags over their heads saying “Happy Holidays,” and avoid meter fees and possible tickets.

Just remember: Two hours is the limit.

Free Meters

• Village Hall lot, Riverside lot (West South Orange Avenue by Ridge Tire), Irvington Avenue lot (corner of West Fairview). 

• All meters on Irvington Avenue, Valley Street, Vose Avenue, South Orange Avenue (Prospect to Church), Village Plaza, and Upper First Street.

• Pay-by-space machines will be bagged in the Taylor Place lot, and the South Orange Avenue lot (across from RiteAid).

Meters Still Enforced

• 12-hour meters in the library lot, and at the end of Sloan Street.

• 30-minute meters on Sloan Street.

• Sloan Street pay station.

• Angled spaces and pay-station on Lower First Street in the firehouse lot.

No parking fees during Dec. 3 festivities

Holiday courtesy parking will be especially welcome for those attending South Orange’s holiday festivities on Saturday, Dec. 3.

• Holiday Open House, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., downtown merchants offer in-store promotions, restaurant specials, refreshments and holiday discounts.

• Visit with Santa at the firehouse, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Photos with children, hot cocoa and refreshments.

• Annual Tree Lighting, 5 p.m. in front of 76 South Orange Avenue. Enjoy carolers and refreshments.
