Torpey To Deliver State of the Village Address on April 30
Village President Alex Torpey will deliver the South Orange State of the Village address on April 30 at 8 p.m.
South Orange Village President Alex Torpey announced that this year's State of the Village Address will be taking place on April 30 at 8 p.m. It will be held in the Main Meeting Room in Village Hall.
Every year, the State of the Village is required to be presented in writing to the Board of Trustees. However, in addition to the written presentation, Torpey will be having a physical ceremony and will verbally present the report to the BOT and the residents of South Orange.
This will be Torpey's first State of the Village Address since taking office in May 2011. In a statement, he said that he believes "holding a physical ceremony with a report to the Board and to the public instills a sense of tradition and helps bring the community together around our progress and our challenges."

Among the topics that he plans to speak about will be the 2012 municipal budget, downtown re-development, public safety, technology and sustainability. He will also touch upon other topics, like the challenges to innovation that face New Jersey local governments.
"As the Village President, it's my responsibility to be accountable for what happens here on a day to day basis and it's my responsibility to report to the Board and the public about what we're doing," Torpey said. "I hope people will join us on April 30 for what I hope will be the (re)start of a great annual tradition in South Orange."
