U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Graduate Programs Announced

In a new report released this week, U.S. News & World Report has recognized Seton Hall’s online graduate programs in nursing and education as among the best in the nation for 2025.

The College of Nursing’s online Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program climbed to 21st of
198 programs, placing Seton Hall in the top 11 percent of all programs nationwide, third among all
Catholic colleges and universities and — once again — the top-ranked program in New Jersey.

The M.A.E. in Education Leadership, Management and Policy and M.A. in School Counseling programs within the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media ranked in the top 10 of
all online graduate education programs in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT), and top 25 percent in the U.S. They also earned the distinction of being third among all Catholic colleges and hold the same ranking overall in New Jersey.

“We are extremely proud that our online education programs have been recognized with this prestigious ranking, which is indicative of the vision, heart and hard work of our faculty, staff and students,” said Dean Bryan Crable, Ph.D. “This further strengthens our College as the singular place for interdisciplinary engagement with some of the stickiest problems of our time, since these programs uniquely equip students to navigate the many, many contemporary challenges and opportunities in K-12 education.”

The recently refreshed M.A.E. in Education Leadership, Management and Policy program builds upon Seton Hall’s history of preparing school leaders for New Jersey and the nation. The M.A. in School Counseling program prepares school counselors to maximize the potential of all students through comprehensive developmental school counseling programs, and develops skills as
competent school counselors and effective consultants, collaborators, advocates and leaders in an ever-changing global society.

Seton Hall professors and advisors are highly focused on helping students succeed in acquiring new positions and advancing their careers after earning their graduate degrees. When choosing a graduate program, Kashon Lopes, Ed.S. '18/Ed.D. '24 — now a principal at Newark Public Schools — sought a university that would prepare him to be an effective administrator. “Seton Hall's history and reputation stay true to its mission of cultivating dynamic leaders,” he said. “I have very fond memories of courses in educational law, school finance, and supervision and instruction. Plus, I was able to engage with diverse, rigorous content led by brilliant instructors.”

Graduate Nursing Programs: Best in New Jersey

hospitals, academic institutions and beyond.”

Highly skilled nurse practitioners, researchers and educators are more critical than ever in today’s complex healthcare landscape. Stinson noted, “With the nation facing a growing nursing shortage over the next decade, Seton Hall remains committed to mentoring a new generation of healthcare advocates to lead the nursing field during this critical time.”

Students in Seton Hall’s M.S.N. programs — comprised of six individual tracks — complete their coursework online, at their own pace. “A lot of my coworkers in other programs attend classes in person, so they have to arrange days off from their work schedule,” said Carlos Guevara, a full-time R.N. in New York City and student in the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. “Seton Hall’s online program makes it so much easier for me to coordinate my schedule with work and school.”

Another key differentiator of Seton Hall’s M.S.N. degree programs is the series of “immersions” held at the University’s Interprofessional Health Sciences campus in Nutley, NJ. Students participate in three Immersions, including advanced skills labs and simulation experiences that prepare them for on-site clinical training rotations required for the degree.

In 2023, the College of Nursing, in partnership with the School of Health and Medical Sciences, secured a $1.4 million federal grant to enhance its Simulation Center facilities. The grant-funded technology upgrades elevate the quality of clinical preparation for students in Seton Hall’s graduate programs in nursing and the health professions.
