Young College Grad Launches New Guidebook: The College Admissions Bible
Most high school students and parents fear the overwhelming and daunting college admissions process. One recent college grad set out to fix that problem...
With the mission to prepare high school students for the daunting college admissions process, 23-year-old Natasha Scott launched The College Admissions Bible, a handy guidebook that finally simplifies the overwhelming college admissions process for students and parents. On June 27, 2013 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Wellness Lounge (14 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ), the launch party and book signing event was well-attended by students, parents, and educators from Union, Essex, and surrounding counties and showcased Scott providing her personal reflections into the college admissions process, as well as discussing hot button issues as the rising costs of higher education and how to work the financial aid process.
"There are plenty of guidebooks out there, but few help to actually simplify the intimidating college admissions process. The College Admissions Bible is an easy-to-read handbook students can carry around with them and refer back to throughout their high school career," said Scott, a 2011 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. "The college admissions process can be a bewildering journey, but it isn't an impossible feat. I wanted to break down the process as much as possible and show students and parents precisely what they need to do to apply for college without making them feel overburdened."
A graduate of Kent Place School (Summit, NJ), one of the nation's top college-preparatory schools, Scott drew on the strategies taught to her by Kent Place's college advisors and combined such tips with her own personal research and experience that helped her successfully navigate her way into her first-choice university. Her concise yet comprehensive handbook provides many how-to's from writing a balanced college list to to constructing a winning college essay, and even includes Scott's own two essays she submitted to the University of Pennsylvania.
With the rising costs of college turning students off from applying to their dream schools or applying to college all together, The College Admissions Bible also stresses the importance of understanding how to work the financial aid process. “A college education is expensive and is a struggle for many to pay, which is why 2/3 of all college students receive some form of financial aid. If you start applying for scholarships early and get a greater understanding of the financial aid application process, you automatically alleviate the majority of the stress of applying to college," said Scott.
Scott spoke of her goals to see The College Admissions Bible distributed widely to students through school districts and has already filled orders placed by East Orange and Orange. Scott said, "This is a truly valuable resource that students, parents, and educators can benefit from and I'm anxious to get it out to as many people as possible!"
