Leaders praised the Sparta Fire Department’s recent brush fire response and encouraged community support for Ginnie's House, Sussex County’s child advocacy center.

Sparta man charged after investigation into reported firearm incident (townshipjournal.com subscription) — A Sparta resident has been charged after Newton police investigated a reported firearm incident dating back to July 2025, ultimately recovering a realistic-looking air pistol. Authorities are using the case to warn Sparta-area residents about the risks of imitation firearms that resemble real guns, urging people not to display replicas in ways that could alarm others.

Cina, Spartans Take Down Immaculate Heart on the Road (tapinto.net) — Sparta High School’s girls lacrosse team picked up a big road win over Immaculate Heart Academy, pulling away 5–2 with a dominant third quarter. Freshman standout Reagan Cina led the offense, while a stingy Sparta defense limited IHA to just four shots on goal.

4. Obituary: Jerome 'Jerry' Castimore (steamboatpilot.com) — Sparta readers are remembering Jerome “Jerry” Castimore, a 1970 Sparta High graduate and Army veteran whose family still lives in town. Though he later settled in Colorado, Jerry stayed devoted to veterans’ causes. A local Celebration of Life will be held at Sparta VFW Post #7248 on August 23, 2026, inviting friends to share memories and condolences.
