Bergen Appointed to Board of Directors of the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys

Township Attorney joins statewide organization.

Springfield Township Attorney Bruce Bergen has been appointed as a Trustee of to the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys

The board is a state-wide municipal attorney organization affiliated with the New Jersey League of Municipalities. Its mission, according to its website, is to promote “education and professionalism among local government attorneys, and to assist members of the legal profession to better serve local governments in New Jersey.” 

In addition to serving as a trustee to the NJILGA, Bergen has been the a associate editor of the Local Government Law Review for the past five years.  In 2005, Bergen was designated a Diplomate in New Jersey Local Government Law.

In 2010, the New Jersey Supreme Court appointed Bergen to a second term as a member of the District XII (Union County) Attorney Ethics Committee, where he served as Chairman in 2009-2010.  He is also the Board Chairman of Central Jersey Legal Services, which provides free civil legal representation to eligible residents of Union, Middlesex and Mercer counties.

Bergen, a Springfield resident and partner in the Cranford law firm of Krevsky, Silber & Bergen, has been Township Attorney for Springfield for 17 of the past 18 years. In 2010 he served as attorney to the Springfield Board of Health, as he previously did in 1987 and in 1993 he was the Springfield Rent Leveling Board attorney. Bergen has also been Special Counsel to the Township of Hillside.

A native of Cranford, Bergen has been a member of the Rotary Club of Cranford since 1982 and has twice served as president of the service organization. He also served for many years as the Attorney Coach for the Cranford High School Mock Trial Team.
