Building Fun In School!

Saint James the Apostle students enjoy an in school field day with Bricks 4 Kidz.

The students in first, second, and third grade at Saint James the Apostle School in Springfield recently enjoyed a Bricks 4 Kidz in-school field trip, in which they explored math and science concepts using LEGO Bricks. The workshop began with a mini-lesson from two Bricks 4 Kidz facilitators to introduce and review various force and motion concepts and vocabulary. This was followed by an engaging hands-on model building experience, in which pairs of students worked as a team to follow the instruction manual and build the assigned structure. First grade students built a single motorized carnival swing while second and third grade students built a more challenging model with two motorized carousel swings. These models demonstrated the grade-appropriate force and motion concepts discussed in the mini-lessons. Students reported that the event was so much fun, they almost forgot they were in school!
