Committee Amends Parking Changes

Rates for permits reduced.

Springfield parking permit fees are set to rise, but not as dramatically as initially proposed.

Earlier, Springfield Committee member Marc Krauss. Krauss said the changes, which include installing new meters in select lots as well as increasing the amount charged for quarterly parking permits, would vastly increase the amount of money generated by municipal parking.

At the June 14 Township Committee meeting, Committee member Rich Huber objected to the rate of increase for the permits, and proposed changes.

Krauss had proposed setting the standard permit fee at $600 a year and $150 per quarter. Huber's suggested rate was half of that, at $300 a year and $75 per quarter. Under the amendments originally put forward by Krauss, parking fees for seniors were set at $400 a year and $100 per quarter. Huber proposed cutting that rate in half as well, for an annual $200 fee and a quarterly $50 price.

The amendment passed with Huber's suggested rates at a 3-2 vote.
