The Springfield Free Public Library offers a musical lecture on the story of "Tevye and His Daughters" written by Sholem Aleichem, from which "Fiddler of the Roof"was taken. The original Broadway production opened in 1964 and was the first musical in history to surpass 3,000 performances. "Fiddler" held the record for the longest running Broadway musical for almost 10 years until "Grease" surpassed its run.
Musician and band-leader David Aaron will discuss the music by Jerry Bock and the lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and play recorded selections from the show. Stroll down memory lane with this classic of the Broadway theatre.
The snow date for this event is March 1. This free program is made possible by the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
