Fourth Graders Do a "Tree-mendous" Job at Saint James the Apostle School

Entire class puts tree planting skills to use beautifying school property!

On Tuesday, April 21st, Michael Cangiano and Angelina Robledo, fourth graders at Saint James the Apostle in Springfield, attended a tree training program at Williams Nursery in Westfield. The training was an interactive “how to” on planting a tree correctly. Michael and Angelina paid close attention to all of the important instructions given so they could properly teach them to their classmates upon their return. Before leaving the training, the new “tree planting experts” were ready to pick out the Redbud tree that they and their classmates would plant back at Saint James. On Friday, April 24th, Arbor Day, the entire fourth grade class brought in their own shovels, soil, and gloves to plant their tree on school grounds. The eager students took turns undertaking the different tasks involved in proper tree planting, as they utilized their recently acquired tree planting skills. The newly planted tree will both beautify the school property, benefit the environment and serve as a reminder for years to come of the power of teamwork!
