Free Museum Passes

Springfield Library's Museum Passes Offer a Great Way to Spend a Summer Day

Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library, residents of Springfield are able to take advantage of the library’s museum pass program this summer. Passes that can be borrowed include the Intrepid Museum in New York City, Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art, located on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan; the Morris Museum, in Morristown, and the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls.

The museum passes may be borrowed for a period of one week by residents of Springfield who are at least eighteen years of age and who are cardholders in good standing at the Springfield Free Public Library. The pass to The Intrepid provides admission for up to 6 people to the Intrepid Museum and the submarine, Growler but does not include admission to the Space Shuttle Pavilion. More information about The Intrepid can be found at www.intrepidmuseum.org.

The pass to Grounds for Sculpture provides admission for up to four people of any age. More information about this unique venue can be found at http://www.groundsforsculpture.org.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art pass provides entrance to the museum for two adults plus accompanying children under the age of 18. More information about the museum’s hours, collection, and famous building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright can be found at www.guggenheim.org.

The Morris Museum pass provides entry to the museum for two adults and up to three children. In addition to the museum’s famous Murtogh D. Guiness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata, the museum is also known for its collections of fine and decorative arts, costumes and textiles. The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center will appeal to baseball fans of all ages. The pass provides admission to the museum for two adults and up to two children under the age of eighteen. More information can be found at www.yogiberramuseum.org

The Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library is a volunteer group organized for the purpose of raising money and providing support for the library. A basic Friends membership costs $10 and new members are always welcome. Additional library services which are funded by the Friends include chair yoga classes, various programming for children of all ages, The World Book Encyclopedia online database, the library’s annual subscription to Bookpage, e-book purchases, and support for the library’s annual summer reading clubs. The Friends’ major fundraising activities for this year include a sale of used children’s books and toys which will be held at the library from July 11-13. Application forms for membership to the Friends are available at the library.
