Kenilworth Homeowner Struck By Wrench After Interrupting Burglar
It is believed that the alleged burglar used a neighbor's ladder to get inside the home through an unlocked second floor bathroom window.

KENILWORTH, NJ — A Kenilworth resident was struck with a wrench after interrupting a man in the middle of burglarizing his home on Wednesday, police report.
On Dec. 26 at about 9:10 p.m., the resident who lives at 568 Newark Ave. came home from work when he noticed a 20-foot ladder propped up against the back of his home leading to the second floor, Kenilworth Police reported.
The resident then heard a loud noise coming from the east side of the house and saw a man coming out of the living room window, according to the report.

The homeowner confronted the alleged burglar, whom he described as black man, 5'6," wearing a mask that partially covered his face and gray sweatpants and an olive green colored sweat jacket.
A struggle began in the driveway where the alleged burglar hit the homeowner twice with a silver colored adjustable wrench, police said.

The resident got up and chased the man completely around his home and last saw him running east through the backyards heading towards S. 24th Street, police said.
Kenilworth Police searched the surrounding area and did not find the man.
It is believed that the man used a neighbor’s ladder to get inside the Kenilworth home through an unlocked second floor bathroom window. Nothing was reported stolen or disturbed at the time.
Kenilworth Police Detectives are investigating.
