Kenilworth Man Robbed Business Owner At Gunpoint: US Attorney

Raymond Scura allegedly drove the victim to a bank where he showed a gun and demanded the victim deposit a fake check and take out cash.

KENILWORTH, NJ — A Kenilworth man was charged with robbing a business owner at gunpoint in February, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Raymond Scura, 29, is charged with one count of Hobbs Act robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, Carpenito said.

Scura previously was arrested and charged in March with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

In February, Scura paid an internet-based business with a fake check. When the owner asked for cash, Scura drove the owner to a bank when he showed a gun, threatened to kill the owner, and demanded the owner deposit the fake check into his account and withdraw cash, according to the complaints and other documents filed in this case.

Scura was also charged by complaint in March with allegedly defrauding various people and entities. He allegedly got goods and services, including a country club membership, limousine services, luxury hotel expenses, wine, and a Rolex watch, by charging such items to credit card accounts that were not his own, according to the report.

He could face a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison on the count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence; and a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gain or loss from the offense on the Hobbs Act robbery charge.

He also faces a statutory maximum of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine on the wire fraud affecting a financial institution charge; and a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison for the aggravated identity theft charge.
