Springfield Library Screens International Film Festival

International Film Festival Kicks off July 8

Spinning off the successful Lunchtime Film Series, the library is now offering a fantastic film program throughout the summer. The International Film Festival will feature two showings of movies each Thursday in July and August. July 8 kicks off the festival, showing Easy Virtue at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Easy Virtue, a 2008 UK film, is an adaptation of Noel Coward's play of the same name. While this is not the first film adaptation, it's the most recent (Alfred Hitchcock directed a loosely based silent film version in 1928). Jessica Biel, Colin Firth and Ben Barnes lead the star-studded cast of the Stephan Elliot-directed film.   It's a classic tale of family tension and social comedy with a score full of many jazz-age songs, some of which are partially sung by the cast.

The movies are picked by group that rotates movies throughout libraries within Union County. Funding for this program is made possible by the NJ State Council of the Arts, through a grant provided through the Union Country office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs and friends of Springfield Public Library.
