Springfield Police Step Up Enforcement Following Florida Shooting
Springfield Police "operating under heightened security" around township schools Thursday following the Florida school shooting.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Springfield Police have stepped up enforcement around township schools Thursday morning in response to the mass shooting at a school in Florida on Wednesday.
The police noted that there are no threats or immediate safety concerns but is "operating under heightened security."
The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, injured at least 14 other people who were hospitalized late Wednesday night, according to a Patch report. The shooting happened after a fire alarm was pulled, prompting students and staff at the school to evacuate. The accused gunman is a former student at the school.

"Along with the additional police patrols in and around our schools, the police department will be taking other undisclosed measures to ensure the safety of all students and school staff," Springfield Police Department said. "This is in addition to measures that the police department has already had in place regarding school security."
