Springfield Publisher Releases Horror Anthology

Stories geared toward readers of young adult and traditional fiction

In time for the haunting season of Halloween, Elephant’s Bookshelf Press (http://www.elephantsbookshelfpress.com) has released its latest anthology of short stories. Horrors: Real, Imagined, and Deadly explores the realm of fear and sorrow.

In its tenth book, Elephant’s Bookshelf Press explores dark thoughts, haunted locations, and gloomy prognoses. Authors writing in a variety of genres are included, such as science fiction, fantasy, and young adult fiction. “Fear is personal,” said Matt Sinclair, who edited the collection and also has a story in the anthology. “What causes the hair on your neck to stand up might not affect me. So we wanted to provide an eclectic mix of authors and perspectives.”

The collection includes a dozen tales spun by as many authors, including acclaimed novelist Mindy McGinnis (author of Not a Drop to Drink, In a Handful of Dust, and the recently released A Madness So Discreet). In “A Secret Kept in Shame” by A.M. Supinger, an unexpected love story emerges between a demonic presence and a blood-thirsty virgin sacrifice. Precy Larkins’s “Dream House” is off the beaten path, while Sinclair’s “Lost” depicts a widow who no longer recognizes her own home.

“I love the stories we’ve collected here,” said Sinclair. “Each one is populated by people who don’t expect to face a horrifying experience. Of course, who does? But there’s something so recognizable in all of these characters and each one of these stories. I can’t say they all feel like they’ve happened to me, but I can’t help but wonder what I would have done if faced with the situations they depict.”
