20 Years of Sweet Success: Brownie Points Bakery at the Summit Farmers Market

Brownie Points Bakery is more than just a place to grab something sweet, it's part of the fabric of the Summit community .

What started as a passion project has become a beloved staple of downtown Summit...and this year, Brownie Points Bakery is celebrating 20 incredible years at the Summit Farmers Market.

Back in 2007, partners Bob Conway and Peter Lloyd began baking their now-famous treats in a borrowed commercial kitchen in Garwood. Armed with talent, creativity, and a whole lot of butter and sugar, they brought their baked-from-scratch goods to the local farmers market. It didn’t take long for word to spread- customers lined up, cravings grew, and a hometown favorite was born.

By 2008, that growing buzz turned into a brick-and-mortar shop on Beechwood Road, right in the heart of downtown Summit. Since then, Brownie Points Bakery has been a go-to destination for locals seeking comfort, celebration, and something just a little indulgent.

Behind the scenes, the duo brings a unique blend of culinary skill and creative vision. Bob, a professionally trained pastry chef and graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, honed his craft at the renowned Gramercy Tavern before fully diving into the world of baking. Peter, with a background as a buyer and product developer for Macy’s Herald Square, including work tied to the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade...adds a sharp eye for design, branding, and customer experience as the bakery’s creative director.

And then… there’s the duffin.

Created in 2008 out of necessity (and a little inspiration), the duffin was born during a season when fresh local fruit was scarce. What emerged was nothing short of genius. A soft, cake-like treat that blends the best of a donut and a muffin, rolled in cinnamon sugar and baked to perfection. It quickly became the bakery’s signature item and a must-have at the farmers market.

Now, in honor of their 20-year milestone, Brownie Points is giving their iconic creation a celebratory twist. Think bold new flavors, seasonal surprises, and limited-edition duffins that push the boundaries of this already beloved treat. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering them for the first time, this anniversary year is the perfect excuse to try something new or revisit an old favorite.

Two decades later, Brownie Points Bakery is more than just a place to grab something sweet, it’s part of the fabric of the Summit community. And if the past 20 years are any indication, the future is looking just as delicious.
