Animal Blessing at Beacon on Feb. 18

All Household Pets Welcome

All household pets and their human companions are invited to Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit for a Blessing of the Animals at the 11:15 a.m. service on Sunday, February 18.

The congregation is located at 4 Waldron Ave. (at Springfield Ave.) in Summit.

“All beloved creatures are welcome—from the pet snail to the family dog,” says Rev. Robin Tanner, minister of worship and outreach. Children and adults without live pets may wish to bring stuffed animals or photos of pets from the past.

For the service, the pets will be welcomed into the sanctuary provided they have no history of problems with people or other animals. Any animals requiring a leash or containment must be properly secured.

There will be no animal blessing during the congregation’s first service, at 9:30 a.m. Instead, a program of song and spoken word will affirm “respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part,” a core UU belief.
