Studio Tour SOMA is an annual, admission-free event held over two days in the townships of Maplewood and South Orange, New Jersey.
Since its inception in 2003, it has drawn visitors from across the tri-state region, offering an authentic and personal glimpse into the daily lives of working artists. Attendees can explore artists' studios firsthand — a unique experience for those looking to start or expand an art collection, and an opportunity to foster meaningful connections between artists and their community.

New Providence Presbyterian Church

Our first speaker in May will be Gary Murakami, focusing on the exploration of AI image creation in the last few years, including early stages from Adobe Firefly, through experimenting with many websites, to the current state of the art with NightCafe (the “AI Art Generator for AI artists, enthusiasts and content creators”). Many images will be used to give an overview of the creation process, composition, challenges, community, multiple image generation models, video, and additional AI tools. Gary, a member of Old Guard, spent the bulk of his career working as a computer scientist and software engineer at AT&amp;T Bell Labs and later as a VP of Engineering.
The Summit Area Old Guard is a social, educational, and recreational fellowship of active men of retirement age, founded in 1930. We hear presentations most Tuesday mornings in an auditorium in New Providence, and we have many other activities including discussion groups, sports and outdoor groups, and celebrations. Our dues are minimal, and members volunteer for all aspects of the operation. Our motto is "Come for the programs. Stay for the friends." Guests are always welcome to attend and to learn about our organization.

Reeves-Reed Arboretum

Reeves-Reed Arboretum invites the community to a free lecture, Selecting Trees that Thrive in Urban and Suburban Landscapes, on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 PM.
Renowned arborist, horticulturist, lecturer, and writer Vincent Simeone will share expert guidance on selecting trees that support birds, pollinators, and other wildlife, as well as species with valuable traits for drought tolerance, heat resistance, and disease resilience.
Presented in partnership with the Summit Shade Tree Advisory Committee, the lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees can earn one continuing education credit (CEU) by participating.
The program will take place at the Arboretum, 165 Hobart Avenue, in Summit. Advance registration is required at reeves-reedarboretum.org.

My Fair Lady is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story, based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalionand on the 1938 film adaptation of the play, concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady. Despite his cynical nature and difficulty understanding women, Higgins grows attached to her.

Close to a dozen Crafters this year, displaying their specialties on the spacious lawn of the museum. In addition, the New Providence Historical Society will be hosting graveyard tours of the New Providence Presbyterian Church, across the street from the Salt Box. The tour will run at 1:30p.m. These amazing tours are guided by the society's own tricorn hat wearing John Sponauer. We are very excited to announce that the 8th annual Juniors Fore Goryeb youth charity golf event is back! It will be held on May 12,, 2026 at Roxiticus Golf Club in Mendham, NJ. Registration is at 3:30PM, shotgun start is at 4:00PM.
It is the annual fundraiser for Kids4Kids, the youth charity group of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center.&nbsp; The group encourages children and teens to get involved with charity, volunteering, and fundraising through hands-on projects and group activities that benefit Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s Hospital.
The event is a nine-hole scramble format (shotgun start) for junior golfers ages 10 through college-age with prizes, on-course games, and a box dinner to follow.&nbsp; Parents may participate with their kids, as well. &nbsp; And you can create your own twosome or foursome or be added to a group.&nbsp; Registration is $125 per player (group discounts are available).
Juniors Fore Goryeb is unique in that it is the only junior golf event in the area organized and run by kids (teens and young adults) for other kids.&nbsp; Funds from this year’s event will go towards Child Life Supplies for Child Life Specialists who focus on keeping young patients calm and distracted during their hospital stay and to support parents/caregivers of children cared for at Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s Hospital in dire financial need (i.e. for transportation, medication, food, and financial assistance).&nbsp;
