Officials are encouraging residents to take precautions during the hot weather, especially those who work outdoors or spend extended periods outside.

The city recommends drinking plenty of fluids, taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and learning the warning signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Residents are also encouraged to check on family members, friends, neighbors, and others who may not have access to air conditioning or who spend much of their time alone.

Officials also reminded the public never to leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, noting that temperatures inside a parked car can rise rapidly and become dangerous within minutes.

Additional heat safety information is available through the City of Summit.
