Donations Being Accepted For Summit Families Displaced From Fire

Donations are being collected by the Summit Area YMCA to help the 12 families displaced by the New Year's Eve apartment fire.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Area YMCA is continuing to accept cash and gift card donations to help the 12 families displaced due to a fire on New Year's Eve at a Summit apartment building.

Piles of clothing have already been donated to both YMCA locations in Summit and Berkeley Heights. The YMCA is now focusing on collecting gift cards and cash.

The five-alarm fire broke out at 5:13 a.m. at an apartment building on 126 Summit Ave. in Summit on Dec. 31.

Firefighters rescued multiple residents through windows and two people were transported to Overlook Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Red Cross is working to secure shelter for displaced families.

Donations can be dropped off at the YMCA locations at 67 Maple St. in Summit and 550 Springfield Ave., in Berkeley Heights.
