SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Police are hoping residents and visitors will come by, throw a ball, dunk-a-cop at National Night out Tuesday and show support for Summit PD's friend, Kylie.

According to authorities the annual Dunk-a-Cop event at National Night Out will be benefiting Kylie:

"This lovely young girl, who spent the first two months of her life in the NICU, coded twice and was diagnosed with Infantile Spasm. Fast forward 12 years, Kylie is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy-Spastic Quadriplegia, Periventricular Leukomalacia, seizure disorder and scoliosis," officials wrote on social media. "Kylie attends a special school where she receives speech, occupational and physical therapies. She communicates with her family utilizing Total Communication, an electronic voice output device."

Police said Kylie endured her first major surgery at age five and the procedure, SPML (Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening), was completed in conjunction with an acetabulum reconstruction and SLOB (Supero-lateral Outcropping Bone Graft) for her right hip.

"Kylie's most recent surgery lasted an astonishing 13 hours for her scoliosis where 3 titanium rods and 35 screws were put in place. Kylie has another surgery slated for later this fall to continue to assist her with complications she has in her hip," officials noted. "Besides being incredibly brave, Kylie loves to cheer on her two brothers, one of which is her twin, being in the water, saying 'hi; and giving kisses."
