Elizabeth Mom Of 3 Is 'Afraid' Of Being Deported

A petition has been created and a rally will be held on Thursday to stop the deportation of an Elizabeth mother of three.

ELIZABETH, NJ — An Elizabeth mother of three, Rojina Akhter, has lived in the U.S. for 14 years with her husband. She is terrified that she will be deported on Thursday just like her husband was earlier this week.

Akhter has an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement check-in on Thursday and a petition has been created to demand ICE to stop her deportation.

Akhter's husband Amenul was on his way to work when he was picked up by ICE on Jan. 17 and deported earlier this week.

This left Rojina to be the sole provider for their children. Their youngest child has a history of health problems, including severe asthma, that requires nebulizers and pumps, according to Make the Road New Jersey.

"If she is detained, she will be separated from her three children, and it may automatically send her youngest child into foster care, unnecessarily making him a ward of the state and further worsening his health. Both he and Rojina have already ended up in the emergency room after Amenul’s detention due to the stress of this ordeal," according to the petition.

A rally, organized by BAWDI, will also be held on Thursday at 8 a.m. at the federal building in Newark before Rojina's 8:30 a.m. check-in.
