Exhibitions 2010: Facutly Exhibition Series
Maria Latour’s current work combines textiles with the hot wax of encaustics. She wants the viewer to be conscious of the act of making. Her process calls for continual change, and response to chance occurrences with the molten wax. Embedded materials between layers of wax result in a physical yet mysterious sense of depth.
The starting point for these constructed pieces is often a text. One text is juxtaposed against another, often contrasting narrative. Both stories are brought into a visual conversation. Within the context of the work Maria hopes to create a reminder that there is no one, true, fixed story.
