Field Hockey Continues Preseason Slate Versus Pingry

The Summit High School varsity girl's field hockey team continued its preseason schedule on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Pingry at Summit High School.

"I don't care about wins and losses in the preseason," Summit head coach Jen Schwarzenbek said. "We are still trying to work out the kinks to get players in the right position."

This was the second of three tune-up match days for the Hilltoppers, who hosted a Fall Classic scrimmage tournament this past Saturday. The Fall Classic included Bridgewater, Chatham, Newton, Northern Highland, South Plainfield, Voorhees, and Wall.

Pingry scored one goal in the first, second, and fourth quarters. Summit was never able to get on the board, but had multiple chances in the second half to punch in a score.

"We played everybody," Schwarzenbek said. "We were trying out different combinations in this one. Preseason is about figuring out what works and what needs to be fixed."

Summit will play its final exhibition match this Friday against Hunterdon Central at 4 p.m. The game will take place at Summit High School.

"We definitely need improvement on offense," Schwarzenbek said. "We are moving people around. We will work on some new positions and see what works."

Summit finished last season with 17 wins and only 5 losses. The Hilltoppers made it to the Group II state semifinal, but fell to Madison, 3-1.

Summit will open the regular season on the road against Watchung Hills Regional on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. The Hilltoppers play three straight road games before its home opener on Sept 16 against Millburn at 4 p.m.
