First North American woman to climb Everest to talk at Oak Knoll

Sharon Wood, the first North American woman to summit the world’s tallest mountain, will speak at Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child later this month.
Wood will discuss risk as a deterrent to doing what’s necessary to live a more fulfilling life. She will also espouse the strategies she’s used to push herself through fears and barriers.

Wood, who reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 20, 1986, wrote a book on her exploits, “Rising: Becoming the First North American Woman on Everest,” which is set to be released by Mountaineers Books next month.
Wood’s talk is sponsored by the Oak Knoll Parents’ Association, which aims to support the school by fostering relationships among students, parents, administrators, faculty and staff, while promoting parental involvement.
