This award-winning film from 2013 is based on the true story of Oscar Grant, who was killed in a scuffle with police on a Bay Area subway platform on New Year's Eve 2008. The movie ticks through the last day of Grant's life, as it builds towards it's senseless end. Michael B. Jordan, in a beautiful, nuanced performance, shows us Grant's flaws and goodness, struggles and dreams, and we have an intimate window into his family life and all the loving people in it. A powerful commentary on humanity and race relations in the US.
