Girls Soccer Looks to Build on Last Season

Senior Liz Cassin and junior Kate Martino return to action today at Cranford.

The Summit Girls Soccer team opens its season with two All-Staters returning to try and build on the success they had a year ago.

Summit's season kicks off at 4 p.m. at Cranford and follows up with another 4 p.m. start at Governor Livingston Thursday.

Senior goalkeeper and one of four captains on the squad, Liz Cassin, shoots for her third straight All-State honor and junior Kate Martino seeks the same, having accomplished that honor as a sophomore and junior. The other three captains are Ashley Chase, Kelly Klaif and Meghan Klassen.

Last year, No. 4 seed Summit (15-4-1) ended their season at home with a 1-0 loss No. 12 seed Shore Regional in the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 sectional quarterfinals on Nov. 5.

"Our girls have been working hard all summer and it shows. We look forward to a powerful season," said Summit coach Christine Bohan.

Last year, Summit got off to a quick start, winning their first six games and seven of their first eight, outscoring their opponents, 45-3.
