"Home for Good Dog Rescue reaches its 3,000th Adoption Milestone at the fourth annual Bark-A-Que"

HFGDR, a non-profit dog rescue organization waives adoption fees for families with special needs children.

Summit NJ- On Saturday Sept. 6, Home for Good Dog Rescue (HFGDR) reached an important milestone as the organization celebrated its 3,000th adoption. More than 3,000 people attended the non-profit’s fourth Bark-A-Que event on Summit’s Village Green where 26 rescued dogs were adopted.

Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson attended and delivered brief comments praising the organization’s commitment to waiving adoption fees for families of children with special needs. A highlight of Dickson’s appearance was when she announced that Turbo, a rescued Chihuahua mix from Crawfordville, Georgia would be the 3,000th dog adopted by the family of a special needs boy. In closing remarks, Dickson encourage attendees to, “Keep helping out HFGDR, the sponsors, and volunteers, and everyone please go home with a dog!”

The Bark-A-Que event focused on finding adoptive homes for rescued dogs as well as re-uniting foster and adoptive families with dogs who have since found their forever home. Approximately forty food and specialty venders offered products and services geared for pets and their owners while adoptive families perused the adoption tents searching for the right dog to bring home.

Chatham residents Chris Hermey, Patti Hyland and their daughter Ava attended the event and reunited “Tuck”, their 10 month old Boxer-Shepherd mix with several other HFGDR dogs wearing blue “I was rescued” and “adopt me” scarfs.

Hyland said their first dog was a “mall dog” and when the decision came to get another pet, they discovered HFGDR on Pet Finder and immediately fell in love with Tuck. After being rescued from a dumpster in southern Georgia, Tuck was brought to NJ and within days was adopted by the Chatham family. After successfully getting through the initial puppy house-breaking phase, the family is thoroughly enjoying Tuck’s vivacious and affectionate personality. Patti says that “although he’s a little bit lazy, Tuck will do just about anything for a peanut butter cookie”.

Hermey said “Tuck is very playful and loves to wrestle with me on the couch. He also loves to sit and watch TV with me, and will totally light up when he is given a snack”.

Hyland and Hermey said they definitely recommend adopting a rescued dog with the HFGDR organization. Instead of purchasing a dog from the mall, finding a pet that’s been rescued and needs a loving home is a very satisfying experience.

About Home for Good Dog Rescue (HFGDR)

Home for Good Dog Rescue is committed to rescuing dogs from high kill shelters in South Carolina and Georgia. Upon arriving in New Jersey, each dog is bathed, vaccinated, micro chipped and spayed/neutered as needed. An important distinction about the organization is that instead of being placed in a kennel, each dog is arranged temporarily placement in foster care which makes the transition less traumatic for the animal. The dogs will remain with their foster family until he or she is adopted into a forever home. Home for Good Dog Rescue is headquartered in Summit and has offices in Berkeley Heights.
