IRS Scam Going "Wild" in Summit
100 phony IRS calls were reported to Summit Police on Thursday.

Summit, NJ -- If someone calls you claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and demand money -- it is a scam.
The Summit Police received 100 reports about the phony IRS calls on Thursday and said the scammers were going "wild" in a Nixle alert.
"A person will call saying they are from the IRS and you owe a tax payment that must be made immediately to avoid criminal prosecution. DO NOT FALL FOR IT," Summit Police announced through Nixle.

The IRS will never:
- Call,
- Direct you to make a payment over the phone,
- Ask you to confirm your Social Security number over the phone,
- Ask for your date of birth over the phone,
- Or ask for your bank routing or account numbers over the phone.
