Jewish Gospel Rocks Summit
The most exciting musical performance of 2018 right here in Summit!

Famed Jewish Gospel singer Joshua Nelson brings his exhilarating show to the Summit area with a public performance at Congregation Beth Hatikvah (CBH) on January 20th.
Nelson, who grew up in the area as a member of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange, carries on the inspirational gospel tradition of his hero, Mahalia Jackson, but adapts the African-American rhythms and arrangements to Jewish liturgical lyrics. Nelson says the fusion, which he has dubbed “kosher gospel”, is a way to claim both parts of his identity as a Black Jew.
Nelson performs around the world in gospel shows, synagogues, and music festivals and was featured on television by Oprah Winfrey as a “next big thing.” His shows invariably bring the audience to its feet, clapping enthusiastically along with the music and dancing in the aisles.

“Joshua’s great wherever he performs, but in our space, which is more intimate than some of those huge halls he plays in, it will be like everyone has a front row seat,” said Robin Bear of Madison, who organized the event. “Plus we’re going to feed you a fantastic kosher BBQ dinner!” A cash bar will also be available.
Tickets, including the concert and dinner, cost $72 each—less than half the price of dinner and a show at any of the local performing arts centers. To book tickets or view videos of Joshua Nelson performing, visit www.BethHatikvah.org/JoshuaNelson.
