Making a Difference 5K Race and Fun Run June 9

2nd annual Making a Difference 5k hosted by Overlook Hospital and Summit PAL through the streets of Summit, NJ

Summit, NJ – Once again, Overlook Hospital and the Summit PoliceAthletic League (the PAL) will be hosting the “Making a Difference 5K” race through the streets of Summit. Proceeds will Benefit the Tarentino family and support Summit PAL community programs.

The second annual "Making a Difference 5K" -- sponsored by Overlook Medical Center in Summit -- will take place June 9, beginning at 9 a.m. The event consists of two separate categories: a 5K run and a one-mile walk / fun run to accommodate participants of varying levels of interest and ability.

The 5K and the one-mile walk /run will begin and end at the Summit Village Green. The hosts will award prizes for top finishers, and provide post-race food and entertainment. Everyone receives an official race T-Shirt.

Detective Matthew Tarentino was 29-year-old Summit Police Officer, loving husband and father of three who was killed in an accident on Interstate 78 on his way to work on May 30, 2017. Though busy with his responsibilites as a father and Police Officer, he still ran regularly and was very competitive. His goal was to break 17 minutes in the 5k.

-Scenic course through downtown Summit.

-Prizes for top overall finishers and top finishers in 5 year age groups.
