Man Dies After Crashing Car In CVS Parking Lot: Summit Police

The 73-year-old man was the lone occupant of the vehicle, police said.

SUMMIT, NJ - A 73-year-old man died after crashing his car in the parking lot of the CVS on Deforest Avenue Thursday morning, according to the Summit Police Department.

According to authorities, the initial investigation by the Summit Police Department indicates that the driver, Robert M. David, was exiting the Deforest Avenue municipal parking lot #1 in a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze when the vehicle suddenly accelerated.

The Chevy traveled north across Deforest Avenue into the CVS Pharmacy parking lot, crashing head-on into a wall located on the north end of the lot, police said.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad to Morristown Medical Center and was later pronounced dead, police said.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
