Monet Jones is Awarded NJ Governor’s Award in Dance

NJDTE Celebrates Dancer's Accomplishment

SUMMIT, NJ – May 2, 2019 – Monet Jones, 17, of Union, New Jersey is a 2019 recipients of the NJ Governor’s Award in Dance. New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE) celebrates this momentous accomplishment of the seasoned NJDTE dancer.

“I have become stronger not only physically, but mentally as a dancer throughout my time at NJDTE. The 7 years I have trained here truly prepared me for my future goal of becoming a professional dancer. I cannot thank my teachers enough for supporting and guiding me to be the best dancer I can be. Receiving the New Jersey’s Governor Award in Arts Education was truly a humbling and thankful experience for me,” says Jones.

Jones, the daughter of Nova Reid-Jones, is currently a senior at Union High School and will be attending Marymount Manhattan College to continue her dance education. Jones most recently performed the soloist roles of “Mouse Queen”, “Doll”, and “Arabian” in the 2018 full-length production of NJDTE’s holiday classic THE NUTCRACKER.

“Monet joined NJDTE’s Ensemble Company in 2012. We are so thrilled for this recognition for her as she is a phenomenal and versatile dancer. Monet will pursue a BFA degree in dance at Marymount Manhattan College in Fall 2019 where she received both academic and dance scholarships from the College” says Nancy Turano, NJDTE Artistic Director and NJCSA Fellow.

Jones will join the group of eight awardees on May 14th at the Trenton War Memorial to receive the prestigious award. Jones will next be seen performing in NJDTE’s ¡Balli di Primavera! The Dances of Spring on May 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium at Montclair State University. Tickets are $25-$40 and can be purchased at www.njdte.tix.com.
