New Storage Buildings at Summit’s Investors Bank Field

The generosity of two of Summit’s sports organizations has resulted in new storage buildings at Investors Bank Field at Tatlock Park. The buildings have replaced four aging and rusted out storage containers. The project began when the City of Summit was approached by the FASTACCT (Friends Advancing Summit Track and Cross Country Teams) organization with the proposal to gift the City a suitable storage building for the track and field equipment. This expensive equipment needs to be properly stored to preserve its integrity. The former storage containers were leaking and dampness would ultimately damage the equipment, especially the foam pads used in the field events. Their interest and enthusiasm inspired the Summit Lacrosse Club to also get involved and offer to fund a storage building for their equipment at the same site. Both organizations ultimately gifted the buildings to the City in April 2013.

Working with local architects, The Rosen Group and Lapp Structures of Lancaster, PA; a site plan was created and accepted by the Summit Planning Board. The FASTACCT building is a 26’x40’ structure with two garage doors and an access door. The building was prefabricated at Lapp Structures and delivered to site. Delivered at 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2014, the entire building was completed by 6 PM that day. The Summit Lacrosse building is a 14’ x30’ structure that was delivered on a flatbed truck and was ready for use when placed on a crushed rock pad. Proudly featuring the Summit colors of maroon and white, both buildings are a welcomed addition to the complex. 

The FASTACCT gift is valued at $16,000.00. The Summit LAX gift is valued at $6,807.00. Funds for the concrete pad and crushed stone bed were found in the City’s Capital Improvement Fund dedicated to this project. Further improvements in the area are expected to follow. Plans are being completed to include the addition of two fully accessible restrooms onto the existing Food Concession Stand at Investors Bank Field. Additional improvements slated for the area include new paved areas, fencing, trees and gates. The additional work will occur in stages as funds become available.

“The generosity and support of the sports parent’s organizations in Summit is remarkable,” stated Judith Leblein Josephs, Director of the Department of Community Programs.  “We are especially grateful to the FASTACCT organization and the Summit Lacrosse Club for these generous donations,” she added.  “All of Summit’s sports organizations commit to an exceptional amount of volunteer time and have made generous donations to each of the sports.”

This donation is especially notable as it filled a long time need, that may not have otherwise been met without their generous support” Josephs added.

Other recent improvements to Tatlock Park include the “Hilltopper Walk of Pride.” That fundraising campaign has created a walkway into Investors Bank Field with tributes to families, teams and athletes involved in Summit’s athletic program, school activities and recreation programs. The proceeds from the “Walk of Pride” will help to make improvements such as these at the park. Bricks for the “Walk of Pride” make great graduation, anniversary and birthday gifts.
