Operation "Code Blue" begins at Calvary Church Summit
Local Church offers shelter and meals on bitter cold nights

“Speak out, judge righteously, Defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Proverbs 31:9
Calvary Church Summit has spent the past seven years restoring our Campus, making it fully accessible to all, while at the same time renewing the vitality and spirit of the oldest Sacred Space in Summit. Upon completion of the Master Plan, Calvary is fully prepared to serve the community at large.

On Sunday, January 20, Calvary Church began a new ministry. As the temperatures plummeted to below zero with wind chill, they opened their doors to welcome those who are in dire need of shelter. With the guidance and help of Leonard Prentice, Calvary invited “our neighbors without addresses” to make the parish hall a safe haven to get warm, share meals, and sleep. Since that Sunday, Calvary has stood firm in welcoming those neighbors to partake in a warm meal and to have shelter from the cold at night.
This is a vital ministry to our Summit community. As the weather patterns continue to change and become more severe, we must come together to show compassion and “defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Calvary is working to bring this vision to the other houses of worship in Summit.

Their plan is to have a rotating schedule where every night of the week from November through March, a house of worship will host these neighbors. As this ministry grows, there will be more opportunities for volunteers to participate.
This is a call to all to reach out to those in need, treating them with compassion and giving them hope. If you are interested in learning more about this community outreach effort, please contact the Parish Office at 908-277-1814 or info@calvarysummit.org.
