PBS Nationwide Broadcast to Feature New Jersey’s Continuo Arts Foundation

Summit: On Mother’s Day weekend the Public Broadcasting Service will air the new documentary Requiem For My Mother, which chronicles the composition, production process, and the inaugural concert of New Jersey’s Continuo Arts Foundation. Directed by Stephen Edwards and David Haugland, Requiem tells the story of Hollywood Composer Edwards, his late mother Rosalie, the mass he composed in her honor, and the preparations for its performance with conductor Candace Wicke on the prestigious Festival Pro Musica e Arte Sacra in Rome and Vatican City.

According to Channel Surfing with Christopher Heffron, “…if Edwards is the quiet soul of this homage to love, loss and song, then its fiery heart belongs to conductor Candace Wicke, who guided the 160-voice choral group and 50-piece orchestra from beginning to end. Formidable, cantankerous, and so impassioned you can’t help but love her, Wicke rocks-a true maestro”. With or without musical appreciation, viewers are sure to enjoy this moving celebration of life, love, family, music and memories.

After watching the documentary, the public is invited to hear several movements live as Continuo Arts celebrates their 10th Anniversary Season with the concert DECADE….the music lives on! Saturday, May 20th at 7:30 in Summit at the Lawton C. Johnson Middle School Auditorium. What is sure to be a sight and sound spectacular complete with hundreds of singers, orchestra, video, alumni and guest artists, the concert will be a retrospective of major performances

throughout the years; of which Continuo Arts is prolific. From numerous appearances on the Festival Pro Musica to Carnegie Hall premieres, the historic first concert inside the Sistine Chapel to forty-two shows premiering Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame at The Paper Mill Playhouse, Continuo has done it all.

And for the true aficionado, the original Requiem for my Mother documentary will be featured on the Summit Film Festival series on June 3rd at Mondo in Summit. Conductor Wicke and members of the Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus will be present for Q & A after the screening.
