Rabid Skunk Reported In Summit

Anyone who had any contact with this skunk or any other wildlife that appeared sick or behaved strangely is urged to report it.

SUMMIT, NJ — A rabid skunk was recently captured in the area of Valley View Avenue in Summit, said City Officials.

Rabies is a fatal disease that can be transmitted to humans and animals through bites, scratches, or open wounds that come into contact with the saliva of an infected animal.

If anyone has had any contact with this skunk or any other wildlife that appeared sick or behaved strangely, contact the Westfield Regional Health Department immediately at 908-789-4070.

Residents are asked to report any sick or aggressive animals to the police department at 908-273-0051 and ensure that rabies vaccinations for pets are up to date.
