Due to a very generous customer, SAGE’s Resale Shop has recently acquired a large quantity of current and fashionable clothing that is typically sold in major national department stores. Republic Clothing Group of New York City, which sells clothing labels such as Grace Elements, Chelsea & Theodore, Sandra, and To the Republic, donated nearly 700 boxes of new women’s clothing to the store.
The relationship between SAGE and Republic began with customer Ed Switek, who works at Republic Clothing Group. He and his family have been regular customers at the resale shop for nearly eight years. Initially, he would bring in a donation of 50-100 pieces of clothing at a time for the shop to resell. Last fall, Ed approached SAGE’s Resale Shop Manager, Rose Rittweger, about donating nearly 700 boxes of merchandise that needed to be given to a charity so that his company could use their warehouse to store new merchandise.
Some of the merchandise went straight to the store, while some was put in storage at a mover’s business. The mover, John Scarinzi of Scarinzi’s Transport in Warren, NJ, in addition to generously providing storage space, also helped secure an auction house for some of the clothing to be sold. Merchandise is still available at the resale shop for purchase.

“I am very grateful for the generosity of so many people – from Ed at Republic Clothing Group who thought of SAGE when he was looking for a charity for the clothing donations, to John for kindly helping secure storage and sales of some of the merchandise,” noted Rose Rittweger, SAGE Resale Shop Manager. “This donation has greatly supported our shop during a very difficult economic period and we have been able to secure at least $17,000 in sales from the auction, which will help a lot of older adults in the surrounding communities that SAGE Eldercare serves.”
Since 1959, the SAGE Resale Shop has helped provide funds for SAGE Eldercare’s programs and services.
