Scotch Plains Mom Gives Birth In Car Backseat On I-78

Breaking: A Summit Police Officer and NJ State Trooper help a Scotch Plains woman give birth to a baby girl in back seat of car on I-78.

SUMMIT, NJ — Early Thursday morning a healthy baby girl was born. Where she was born was not the most conventional of places — the backseat of the car along Interstate 78 in Summit.

Olivia Cummings, 27, of Scotch Plains mom had gone into labor earlier in the morning on April 6 and was being driven to the hospital by her friend, Lashanie Watson, Summit Police reported.

While on Interstate 78 East near mile marker 45.8 in Summit, it was clear Cummings was not going to make it.
