Several BMW's Stolen From Summit After Key Fobs Left Inside
Other cars were rummaged through around the same time. One person had two cars stolen on the same day.
SUMMIT, NJ — Every story has a moral. So does this one.
The moral is: Don't leave your key fob in your car. Especially if, as in several recent cases, the car is expensive.
This past Friday, according to the Summit Police, officers took a report at 1:17 a.m. of the thefts of two motor vehicles from a Beverly Road residence where both vehicles had been left unsecured, with key fobs inside. At the time of the report, the combined value of the cars was approximately $20,000, police said. They didn't note the type of cars that were stolen.

Hours later, according to the Summit Police, officers took a report at 8:18 a.m. of a stolen motor vehicle from a residence on Harvey Court. The vehicle, a BMW, had been left unsecured with the key fob inside.
The car was later used in a string of burglaries in another town, police said in their report.

According to police, there were $8,210 worth of items stolen along with the car: clothes, shoes, and electronic devices. Police said they didn't know the value of the car.
Then, this past Monday, at 9:40 a.m., police took a report of a stolen motor vehicle from a Brainerd Road residence. The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, had been left unsecured with the key fob inside. According to the victim, the vehicle had been last seen just a few hours earlier, at 6 a.m. The car was later recovered by the Newark Police Department.
On Tuesday, at 12:25 a.m., police took a report of a car stolen from an Essex Road driveway, unsecured, with the key fob inside. It was a silver 2019 BMW 530i valued at approximately $53,000, police said.

Several other motor vehicles were broken into in the last few weeks with not much stolen, police said. They said that on April 22, three cars were broken into in a driveway to a Gloucester Road residence. The only item missing was a $1 bill, but all three vehicles had been rummaged through, police said.
The same day, three other residents on Gloucester Road said someone went into their cars in their driveways, but nothing was taken.
Within the next few days, someone also broke into unsecured cars in driveways on Little Wolf Road, Ashland Road, Drum Hill Drive, Portland Road, and Dale Drive. Nothing was taken.
