Shop In Summit On Small Business Saturday

American Express is encouraging shoppers to support local Summit businesses.

SUMMIT, NJ — Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves.

What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Summit and beyond that are the backbone of America's economy? Just when do they get their day?

That's basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born.

Small Business Saturday is "a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities," the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website.

Downtown Summit is sweetening the pot with a business passport program. By having their passport stamped by eight different downtown Summit businesses between Nov. 24 and Nov. 30 guests will have the chance to win gift cards. At least 4 stamps must be from retail shops. No purchase is necessary. Passports must be turned in by 7p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 to be entered to win a $500 Summit Gift Card. Ten runners-up will also each win $100 gift cards.
