Squad Volunteers Answer 4 calls in 38 Minutes

Summit EMS volunteers handled multiple emergencies in short order on Monday afternoon.

Over the years I've written many press releases for the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad. Quite a few have been about situations were we responded to multiple medical emergencies in a short time frame.  These most often include fire scenes or accidents with multiple injures as well as those infamous named storms that always result in many 9-1-1 calls.  But, sometimes multiple unrelated emergencies happen simultaneously.  That was the case this week when in the span of 38 minutes on a sunny afternoon the squad received 4 separate ambulance calls and promptly answered each one.  Barbara Rybolt from the Independent Press happened to be in the Squad building at the time and watched as our members, including her 2 interview subjects scrambled out the door.  She documented the afternoon quite well in this article.

Volunteerism has always been strong in Summit.  And we at the First Aid Squad are truly blessed to have so many who dedicate their time, often on a moments notice, to help their neighbors in a time of need.  For nearly 52 years, our EMS volunteers have been answering the call.

The First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks and provides the needed training and uniforms.  Prospective members can also sign up for our ride along program to see first hand what it's like to serve as an EMS volunteer.

The Squad has also recently launched a capital campaign to replace their aging headquarters and is seeking the communities help to reach that goal.

For more information about the squad or becoming a member, visit our web site at: summitems.org or give us a call at (908) 277-9479.

John Staunton is a long time member and currently the Captain of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad.
