“Here we come a-wassailing” was heard on the streets of Summit on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2017, as young and older members and friends of St. John’s Lutheran Church greeted and serenaded shoppers, diners, residents, and travelers throughout the city with a rich variety of Christmas carols, sharing the good news of Jesus’s birth. Accompanied by two trumpeters, the group was joined at several locations by people who stopped to listen in or sing along. A special visit to the Vito Gallo senior residence was the last stop on the itinerary. Lower brass instrumentalists augmented the carolers and residents at Vito Gallo as they sang and played “Silent Night,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Jingle Bells,” and other familiar and well-loved carols. Refreshments were enjoyed by all afterward.
