Funds Needed for Mission Trip to Mexica

St. Teresa of Avila Church in Summit is hosting its "Fall Fiesta" fundraiser on October 4, 2019 at 6:30 PM to support its Mexico Mission Trip. The festivities will include a grand silent auction, marachi band, and Mexican food. Tickets cost $50.00 and all proceeds go to support the families in need at the San Martin Cabellero Parish of Iztapala, Mexico. The cost of sponsoring a table is $500.00 and includes two free tickets and name recognition at the event. For the past 18 years, a group of volunteers has made an annual trip this small town in Mexico, not far from Mexico City. Many Summit High School and middle school volunteers have played an essential role on this service trip, and are often accompanied by a parent. Projects have included construction and field restoration. Volunteers go on house visits to make a connection to the families with students in the program. A Summit doctor and dentist set up a clinic while there to provide free medical care. There are unforgettable moments to play and pray with the members of this tight-knit community. After the latest trip in June 2019, one participant said, "The people here have so little, yet they tell us the help we provide makes such an incredible impact on their lives. Their gratitude has changed me forever."

The money raised will go directly to the children and their families to help cover the cost of monthly food supplements, school supplies, and much needed shoes. Volunteers on the trip cover their own expenses, and many also sponsor children in the program.
