Summit Common Council Will Reorganize At Jan. 5 Meeting
Mayor Nora Radest will provide the State of the City address and a Common Council president will be chosen.

SUMMIT, NJ — Mayor Nora Radest will give the State of the City Address, and the council will choose a council president from among its members, at the Summit Common Council's virtual reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.
Earlier that day, councilwomen Susan Hairston (1st Ward) and Marjorie Fox (2nd Ward) will be sworn in after winning re-election November.

- 1 p.m.: The swearing in of the re-elected council members will be held that day at 1 p.m. in the courtyard of City Hall. Due to State of New Jersey COVID-19 restrictions, only essential staff and the families of the elected officials will be allowed to participate. The swearing-in will be broadcast live on HTTV on Comcast channel 36 and Verizon channel 30, and on the City of Summit YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram channels.
- 7:30 p.m.: The Common Council Organization Meeting will be broadcast live at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom, HTTV on Comcast channel 36 and Verizon channel 30, and on the City of Summit YouTube channel. For more information on Common Council, visit the city website.

Members of the public can join the meeting virtually or they may send comments/questions in advance of the council meeting, via email or first-class mail. Emails should be sent to the City Clerk, cityclerk@cityofsummit.org. Letters should be sent to the attention of the City Clerk, 512 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ 07901. Deadline: Emails or mailed correspondence must be received in the City Clerk’s Office no later than Jan. 5 by noon.
Members of the public sending an email or mailing correspondence via first-class mail must include their full name and address within the body of the communication. In addition, the city clerk requests that emails include the date of the council meeting in the subject line to assist in identifying such emails.

Participating during the public portion of the meeting
During public comment portions of the meeting, if you would like to speak, please click the "Raise Hand" button, and we will be notified of your request to speak. The Council President will recognize you, and your microphone will be un-muted to allow you to speak. Once you have finished speaking your mic will be re-muted.
For security reasons anyone who is listed as “anonymous” or whose phone number is not identified cannot be recognized. When you are un-muted, before asking your question or making your comment, you must first state your name, address and spell your last name. Failure to do so may result in you being muted and/or disconnected.
On computers, the "Raise Hand" button can be found in the Webinar Controls section, typically at the bottom of your screen. If you accidentally raise your hand, feel free to "Lower Hand."
If you are dialing-in by telephone, press *9 on your keypad to “Raise Hand” and press *6 when prompted to speak.
