Latest Summit Election Results: Common Council Races
One council race was neck and neck as the votes were counted in the Summit Common Council election Tuesday night.

SUMMIT, NJ — The polls in the New Jersey elections have closed. As of Wednesday morning, the 1st Ward Summit Common Council race was close, and the other candidates were separated by significant margins.
However, the results were still unofficial.

In Summit, Democrat Beth Little was running for re-election to her council-at-large seat. She faced a challenge from Republican Steven Spurr.
Democrat Andy Minegar filed to run for a 1st Ward seat. During the June primary, former Summit Police Chief Robert Weck missed the deadline to file to run for that seat as a Republican, but led a write-in campaign in order to face Minegar. The two were in a close race Tuesday night.
Incumbent Democrat Greg Vartan faced Republican David Fosgate for the 2nd Ward seat. And Republican Lisa Allen filed to keep her 2nd Ward seat.
The tallies on Tuesday night were:
- Beth Little (D): 3,904
- Steve Spurr (R): 3,226
- Andy Minegar (D): 1,750
- Robert Weck (R): 1,692
- Greg Vartan (D): 2,023
- David Fosgate (R): 1,701
- Lisa Allen (R): 2,180

Other Election Information
The Summit Common Council has seven seats: three seats for each of two wards, and one "at large" seat.
Each ward seat carries a three-year term; the at-large seat is two years.
