Five Candidates File To Run for Summit Common Council
Four seats on the seven-member council are up for election in November, but only one is contested so far.

SUMMIT, NJ — Five candidates filed by the deadline last Monday to run in primary elections for four seats on the Summit Common Council. Only one of the seats is contested so far.
The Summit Common Council has seven seats: three seats for each of two wards, and one "at large" seat.
Each ward seat carries a three-year term; the at-large seat is two years.

Last Monday was the deadline to file for those running for the Democratic or Republican nomination in the June primary. Independents may still enter the race.

Two candidates filed to vie for one of the Ward 2 seats. Incumbent Democrat Greg Vartan will face Republican David Fosgate in November. No one else filed as a Democrat or Republican to challenge them in the primary in June.
The other races are unopposed so far:
- Democrat Beth Little filed for re-election to her council-at-large seat.
- Democrat Andy Minegar filed to run for a 1st Ward seat.
- Republican Lisa Allen filed to keep her 2nd Ward seat. She was appointed in February to fill out the term of Steven Bowman, who moved away. His term ends Dec. 31, 2022.

The primaries for the Democratic and Republican nomination in New Jersey will be held June 8, with the general election Nov. 2.
Last November, three candidates ran for two open seats.
