Summit Fire Victim's Beloved Cat Has Been Found

SUMMIT, NJ — Jackson, the beloved cat of one of the fire victims who got lost during the commotion of the apartment building fire on New Year's Eve has been found.

Summit Police reported Jackson was found on Jan. 3.

Jackson was last seen at 125 Summit Ave. on Dec. 31 at the site of the fire where 12 families had been displaced.

The five-alarm fire broke out at 5:13 a.m. at an apartment building on 126 Summit Ave. in Summit on Dec. 31.

Firefighters rescued multiple residents through windows and two people were transported to Overlook Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gift cards and cash donations are being collected for the fire victims at the YMCA locations at 67 Maple St. in Summit and 550 Springfield Ave., in Berkeley Heights.
