Summit Opens Warming, Charging Stations

Due to widespread power outages, two warming and charging centers have been set up in Summit for Thursday.

SUMMIT, NJ — Due to widespread power outages, two warming and charging centers have been set up in Summit for Thursday.

Center Presbyterian Church at 70 Maple St. will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. Power and wifi is available. Locals should bring a charging cord for their device.

The Summit Area YMCA is also opening at 1 until 10 p.m. for all Summit citizens as a warming and charging center, with access to showers.

Crews are still working to respond to emergency calls and plow city streets. Residents are asked to keep cars in driveways as long as possible to allow streets to be cleared.

Main streets and access roads are being cleared first. Fallen trees and downed live wires are affecting plowing efforts.

Downed wires and power outages should be reported to JCP&L at 888- 544-4877 as 9-1-1 needs to be reserved for life-threatening emergencies.

Residents are asked not to shovel snow into streets and to clear a path to fire hydrants for emergency access.
